Re-created Treasure

This recent re-design transformed a client’s antique, traditional-looking aquamarine ring into an artful, unique piece of statement jewellery.

Rachel had been a client of Emily’s for several years and she had a collection of pieces that had become comfortable everyday companions.  The individuality of the designs and the effortless wearability of Emily's work had become more her style than the formal traditional aquamarine ring that she had languishing in the back of her jewellery box that somehow no longer felt 'her'. She approached Emily to see if the fabulous aquamarine and small diamonds could be re-purposed into a new statement ring; something unique and individual yet simple and stylish that she could happily wear everyday.

Rachel knew she wanted the ring to be platinum and she particularly liked the irregular textured character of some of Emily's rocky sculptural rings. With the aquamarine off-set as the focal point, Emily started to model her ideas directly into wax, shaping the stone setting and creating craggy outcrops for diamonds to be set into. This way of three dimensional 'drawing' allows a certain artistic freedom and fluidity that makes Emily's designs stand apart from more traditional designers. At his stage Rachel could approve the design before the wax was cast into platinum using the lost wax technique.

Once cast, the ring was hallmarked - Emily's mark is registered with the Birmingham Assay Office - and then meticulously finished in the studio. The aquamarine was set at an irregular off-kilter angle and the characteristic sea-worn surface of the platinum was scattered with the small white diamonds which evoked a sense of light twinkling on water. Rachel was delighted.

A unique re-creation with a history that will live on to be treasured in its new incarnation.
