Thank you for all the love

Three weeks ago my show bag - containing a great many diamond and sapphire rings, pendants and earrings - was stolen from my stand at the Spirit of Christmas Fair. The bag they grabbed  had significant value but more than that, we take great pride in every finished piece, these are unique little art works that are pored over meticulously. We deeply care about what we make and losing so much hit us hard.

In response I made a video, appealing for help to find my stolen jewellery which I shared on Instagram initially then a few days later on Facebook.

What happened next took me by complete surprise, the overwhelming kindness and support that flooded in by email and over social media picked us up when we were on the floor.

There are so many people we would like to thank - in the immediate aftermath it was exhibitors at the show who were so generous with their support - popping to see us on the stand with gifts of sympathy - from tea to wine! Then of course it was you - our extraordinary customers and followers who shared the message far and wide - until the video had reached an astonishing audience of 921k on social media.

Offers of support came in so many guises - with a show still to attend, police reports, insurance to follow up, designs to replace and gemstones to source we were at risk of feeling overwhelmed. So when my gemstone suppliers in Australia, Sri Lanka and Montana let me know they were already setting aside sapphires in my favourite colours I realised the network of support stretched far and wide. A sapphire gifted from Fairtrade gemstones even arrived in the post.

The number of people behind each design - my wonderful team in Cornwall, the hall markers in Birmingham, my master casters and gemstone suppliers - they are all working so hard and routing for us to come through this and we are.

We even had volunteers offering PR help to spread the word and must thank Rhona Gardiner at Excess Energy and Mimi Connell-Lay for their help sharing the message through the media.

The human capacity for kindness is a great gift - and we have been in the privileged position to be on the other end of a tidal wave of it - we will be forever grateful.
