Artist's Note
Artist's Note
Alaria (Latin for 'wing') is a species of seaweed found deep beneath the ocean's surface. Emily has translated its fluid movement through her process of hand-sculpting wax, resulting in ribbons of gold that hold painterly palettes of sapphires, highlighted by accent diamonds reminiscent of sunlight on water.
The 'Rock Pool' Alaria is formed of sapphires from Australia and Montana, forming a pallete of deep blues, soft greens, and pastels.
Our Sapphires
Our Sapphires
The sapphires in this piece naturally formed approximately 150—300 million years ago. Each stone has a unique and unrepeatable colour palette, caused by trace elements surrounding the sapphire crystal as it was formed. As a result, each individual piece is unique, with subtle colour variation in the stones. All of our stones are responsibly sourced with strict human rights and environmental due diligence on trusted, reputable suppliers. They are set by hand in West Cornwall.
Our Diamonds
Our Diamonds
The diamonds in this piece naturally formed approximately 1—3.5 billion years ago in the Earth's mantle. They rose to the surface over millions of years to be sourced from South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia, in compliance with the Kimberley Certification Process. All of our stones are responsibly sourced with strict human rights and environmental due diligence on trusted, reputable suppliers. They are set by hand in West Cornwall.
